Issue:
Some Android users encounter a network error message displaying “Secure Connection Error” when trying to use the iSharing app. This error prevents access to the app’s features.
Possible Causes:
This issue may stem from one of the following:
- Antivirus Interference: Certain antivirus apps, such as McAfee, installed on your device may disrupt SSL certification, causing connection problems with the iSharing server.
- Internet Service Provider Settings: Some ISPs, like Verizon/FIOS, use the McAfee Secure Home Platform to block unsafe web traffic. This optional security feature can mistakenly flag the iSharing server as suspicious, blocking access. Disabling this setting should restore functionality.
Solutions:
To resolve this issue, try the following steps:
- Check Your Antivirus App:
• If McAfee or another antivirus app is installed, temporarily disable it and test if the error persists.
• If disabling the antivirus resolves the issue, adjust its settings to allow the iSharing app or consider switching to a different antivirus solution. - Update Your Antivirus App:
• Ensure your antivirus software is up to date. Updates can fix compatibility issues with other apps, including iSharing. - Switch to a Different Network:
• If you suspect the current Wi-Fi network is causing the issue, try switching to another network.
• Disconnect from your current Wi-Fi by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi and turning it off.
• Connect to a different Wi-Fi network or use your mobile data (e.g., 4G/5G) instead.
• Test the iSharing app again to see if the error persists on the new network. - Check Certificates:
• Navigate to Settings > Security and Privacy > More Security Settings > View Security Certificates on your Android device.
• Check the "System" (pre-installed trusted certificates) and "User" (manually added certificates) tabs for any certificates tied to *.mcafee.com or McAfee.
• Verify that certificates required by the iSharing app are trusted. If unsure which certificates are needed, contact our support team for assistance. - Check Verizon App (If Using Verizon ISP):
• If your home Wi-Fi is provided by Verizon, install or open the My Verizon app.
• Log in to your Verizon account.
• Go to Home > Internet > Network Protection.
• Turn off "Network Protection" to disable the McAfee Secure Home Platform. - Contact Support:
• If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, reach out to our support team with details about the error message, any antivirus software, ISP settings, or network configurations you’re using.
Preventive Measures:
- To avoid this issue in the future, ensure your antivirus software, ISP settings, and network configurations are compatible with the iSharing app and permit SSL certificates from trusted sources.
We apologize for the inconvenience and are collaborating with antivirus providers and ISPs to improve compatibility and enhance your experience.
